George Berkeley, an empiricist philosopher of the 18th century, regards corporeal things as perceptions or ideas (subjective idealism) from one side, and from another side, he denies the existence of material things, and he confirms only the presence of the soul (objective idealism). In "Berkeley: An Introduction", Jonathan Dancy, has tried to give an outlook of Berkeley's philosophy, which pursues the analytic philosophers' procedure, contains an analysis of the main constituents of his thought by having a critical view, and shows its prominent and weak points. The significant innovation of this book is in introducing Berkeley's view on scientific explanation as a scientific and, at the same time teleological explanation. He says that he has gotten to this point by reconstructing Berkeley's thoughts rather than just studying these books. This paper aims to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of some authors' criticisms against Berkeley's thought and to show some defects of his analysis. In addition, the Persian translation of the book will be assessed and criticized.

The book entitled A History of Philosophy written by Fredrick Copleston. This set of books is the main source of teaching history of philosophy in the departments of philosophy at the universities of the country and its volumes have been translated into Persian by some experts in philosophy. Two volumes of this set are dedicated to the Modern philosophy of the 17th and 18th centuries: Vol. 4 about Rationalism and vol. 5 about Empiricism. In vol. 4, after a comprehensive introduction in which the general specifications of the modern period have been explained, Copleston has discussed the ideas of the modern rationalists notably Descartes, Pascal, Malebranche, Spinoza, and Leibniz. The important advantages of the book are having the educative form and containing the main ideas of any one of those philosophers. The translator and editor of the book are well-known experts in philosophy, but because of the careless publication of the book, the book contains a lot of formal and contextual mistakes which have not been removed by publishers after several publications. Evaluating the content of the book, this article tries to refer to some defects of it.

A History of Philosophy: From Bolzano to Wittgenstein includes an analytic debate on the most important elements of the ideas of analytic philosophers of the first half of 20th century. The book tries to evaluate and analyze the ideas of analytic philosophers as a philosophical school in philosophy in a way that their ideas can be reduced to each other. After debating on the backgrounds of analytic philosophy, it refers to the ideas of Bolzano, Frege, Russell, early Wittgenstein, Carnap and the movement of formalization and at the end, it shows the ideas of Moore and later Wittgenstein who pursued another way in analytic philosophy which was later known as linguistic philosophy. So, the structure of debate in the book has been directed in two parallel movements, that is, logical analysis and linguistic analysis, though more attention is directed to the first movement. This article goes to assess and criticize the form and the content of the Persian translation of the book.
